Redeeming the Prophetic Voice - Introduction

I've been reading a lot of different reactions lately about a prophecy predicted by an Indian prophet a couple of months ago. A lot of my friends and co-workers are familiar with the prophecy and it really shows their concern about what might happen which ultimately created fear from what lies ahead.

Seriously, I've been into prophetic ministry for almost ten years and I would say that a true prophetic voice (of the Lord) does not create fear, resentment or expose even when we see judgement.

Why do I resent such judgmental prophecies?

Simply put, a true prophetic voice should always bring restoration when spoken out of love and administered through grace. Again, the word from the Lord should always bring hope, comfort and edification to the saints and not the other way around. This is part of our protocols as prophetic ministers (and of the gospel).

But with the disasters, the bad news and even the economic turmoil seems to agree to this particular strong prophecy. It's spreading like wildfire especially when the sensationalism of news (particularly the Pangasinan mysterious skin disease) caught the attention of many the other day.

But seriously, how do we determine if a prophecy came from the Lord? or from a familiar spirit? Or even from our very own soul?

What is our basis in determining if that prophet or this one is true?genuine?and from God?

Where do we identify ourselves as a prophetic people when there seems to be a cloud of fear and rejection covering over receiving true prophecies?

Lastly, how do we stop this mallady from spreading and bring to light the truths of what and how prophecies should be released, received and restore someone?

These are questions that has me thinking for awhile and I'd like to try to answer them in the next few blog posts that will focus on these questions respectively.

Again, tests every prophecies by checking the word of God, the background of the Prophet and their predictions. We live in the era wherein even Jesus warned them of many "false prophets and teachers" as the dreadful day of the Lord approaches near.

God bless YOU!
